You don't really need a radiator tool, a small screwdriver works just as well. Need a 3-gear jaw puller if you plan on pulling the crank pulley off the motor, and you will need a power steering pulley puller. Autozone has one in their loan-a-tool deal that works like a charm. I can't think of anything other than that, the rest is pretty straightforward with hand tools. If you plan on leaving the tranny in when you pull the motor you may want to pick up some long extensions to help you get to the bolts at the top of the bellhousing. Not much else besides that. Just plan to get good and messy and be patient and take your time, especially if this is your first time.

dont want to hijack the thread but with my cable driven throttle body, if i was to switch to a 6.0 (has the drive by wire setup) how would i go by doing the peddle assembly and what not? would it be so simple as putting my old throttle body back on there or would i need to mount some sensor on my peddle to accomidate for the new throttle body or what?

Swap your old intake onto the new motor. The longblocks are the same, accessories might be different, but if you reuse all your original accessories you don't have to worry about compatibility issues. I put a 2005 motor into my 2001 truck, swapped all accessories between the two and it worked out perfectly.

The only thing you really switch is the block and heads. You will reuse everything else off your current engine on the new one.

Basically everything but the longblock should stay with the truck.

I had to swap valve covers too, because the 05 covers were different from my 01 covers. If you keep all your original accessories you can reuse the same wiring harness. I had to swap one sensor (I think it was the cam position sensor) because it was different on the 05 motor. You'll want to swap intakes, throttle body (which is attached to the intake and will go as part of it), water pump (I kept my old one because I couldn't fit my 01 t-stat into the 05 water pump), a/c compressor and p/s pump (those can stay in the truck when the motor comes out), alternator, front bracketry, etc etc.

What Zick said.

Here's my advice for the swap...

take notes - make note on paper of the sensors you unplug, the grounds you disconnect and the location of different hoses that connect here and there. Sound stupid? no. I reviewed my list after I thought I had done everything and it turns out I forgot to plug the coolant temp sensor back in - it was hidden by some stuff. If not for the list, I would have lost track of the grounds as well - there's more than a couple. Take good notes and you won't have a problem

If you're swapping in a 6.0 that had a 4L80E attached, make sure you swap the flexplate from your 4.8 - it will mate with the 4L60E converter.

Good luck
