Also does the gasket kit from Thunder racing come with water pump gaskets and a new crank bolt?

How many miles are on your truck? If not too high, you can get away with not replacing any of the gaskets. They're oring style gaskets. I have done it many times. I always put in a new timing cover seal and bolt, but have only replaced the gaskets the first cam swap and did two more after that without problems.

I bent (yes bent) a water pump gasket on accident (DOH), and it still works fine.

I got my kit from TSP, and it came with a new crank bolt.

FWIW - not to start a war here, but I went to the local dealer for a new crank bolt for the next cam swap, and he said he'd have to order it. It's not something they stock. I asked what the mechanics on the floor do with these bolts on the Gen III motors - he said they reuse them.

"There's no way they're torque to yield - they're 16mm grade-8 equivalents.", was more like what he said.

If anyone needs longer crank bolts and washers (you'll need washers, not just the bolt), I have four bolts and four washers here. I don't know how many washers you'll need. I made a "one time use" one out of AL when I did my swap - before I picked up these things.

Oh ya forgot to add get some 16mm washers highest grade you can. I only used two to help pull the pulley back on. And maybe i will write a book. Just a lot of crap i went through and dont want others to go through it too. OH and here is the valve compressor tool

15 bucks. Simple looking, simple to use, and works like a charm.

Make sure you get 5-6 extra rubber bands to keep it tight. And it never slipped

Might wanna go ahead and change your valve seals while your in there!! I did, the seals were pretty dam cheap. When I did my cam I used the magnet trick. BUT the lifters would have stayed without them. The retainers are pretty tight. I used the magnets as an insurance policy. Man oh man was the oil pump fun to change!!

my friend owns a shop where he owns all the tools and pen magnets but not 16, and not the right kind of valve spring compressor. He has a hydrolic car lift, air guns small and large, and snap on torque wrenchs, etc so I will be set on that stuff. Hopefully it can be finished in 8hrs.

It can be done. I swapped the cam, valve seals, oil pump, springs and some seals in just under 8 hours. ( A few much needed beer breaks included)
