Driving after cam install
Im giong to be installing a cam in my truck this weekend and this isnt everything im giong to do to the truck im planning on some heads a FLT trans and 3k tq converter. My question is do I need to have the truck tune right away or can i wait till i get the heads and trans in there and drive on the tune I have now wich is a performance programer tuned for 93 octane the specs on the cam are 220/224 .530 .534 with the 1.85 rockers .578 .581 112 lsa. From what i understand about these engines wich isnt much it would be ok to drive it like that cause ignition and fuel timing are computer controlled so the computer will ajust with the new cam even ls1howto.com it says you can drive with a stock tune, so a tune will just make it run better and not die at idle???????? So has anyone here driven on a stock tune longer than just to a tuner or should i wait til i get all the parts for the truck before i do the cam cause i know il be temped to go WOT?

Well I talked to my tuner today speed inc and they are gona give me a basic tune for the cam so I can drive it with no probs for 150 then when im done with the truck il get a dyno tune and theyll deduct the 150 from the dyno tune price so looks like i wont have to deal with the ruff driving after all. What do you guys mean by 2 foot driving????

I would not permanently alter my throttle body to cure an idle issue. If you have a cable operated throttlebody you could just hold the blade open a little more by installing a set screw on bump stop.
