Default The Drone HAS to go

I just don't understand.

I originally had a completely stock exhaust setup. Chopped off the stock muffler and put a Flowmaster 40 on it, single in/dual out set up. I have 2 2" pipes that take it all the way back to the bumper and turn down a bit just underneith the bumper.

It sounded good but droned like crazy at 2K RPM and was KILLING ME!!!

I swapped it out for a magnaflow thinking it would help and it didn't!.

My current set up is as follows.

4.8L V8 into stock exhaust manifolds/cats, stock I assume 3inch pipe? down to a 12-13"? Magnaflow single in dual out. and 2 2" pipes that take it to the back bumper and turned down a bit just behind it.

It DRONES at 2K rpm!! Sounds good at WOT, but want to hear the rythem of the motor through the entire rpm band under regular casual driving.

Idea's anyone??

the muffler, whcih I don't even know how to measure it properly..

Is just over 12" that is just the mainbody. 13" to include the edges of the mainbody (mainly looks like just welding).

Sits where the stock muffler used to, you can see it when you look down between the bed and the cab.

Where would you suggest I put it?

I would move it back under the bed more..my old ext cab would drone like crazy with the muffler under the cab..other then that im not really sure what else to do..put a resonator somewhere in the exhaust

I might have to give that a go.

Someone tried telling me that the two 2" pipes is restrictive and causes it to resonate? If I changed them to 2 2.5 or 2.25" pipes it would sound better and deeper? I dunno..

Do you have the stock cats? The pipe diameter should not matter. I would add high flow cats and Corsa makes a great muffler.

hmm...

Is it possible its cause of the 4.8L motor?

I'm considering changing it out to a larger 18" or 22" muffler, cause i'm going to be putting LT's on here shortly. I'm sure that'll be way way too loud with the 14" muffler..

the FM 50 series doesn't cause any drone like the 40 does.
