As far as the 80 goes in a racing set up it will hold up, in a pulling contest not sure. Did I mention I would do the turbo.
How much would you be charging for a Dmax? And I am still considering the turbo set up, I just know a lot more about diesel motors than gassers. Either way, I think most of my parts will be one-off set ups, am I right?

What else would I need to complete the dmax swap? With the motor and harness, what other accessories would I need to complete the project?

Time and money. I really wish GM was still releasing that 4.5 DMax this year, I really wanted to do that swap.

SSS with a 4.5 DMax / 6l80e combo and lots o'boost...that'd be sick!!

The 4.5 Dmax may still be an option for 2011 according to Diesel Power. Won't be in the SUV's anymore though...

I am really starting to look into the Dmax conversion, seems like a good project. I've seen a few twin turbo kits for them, but maybe a one-off piece would be better?

After getting my hands on this diesel suburban, it really has me thinking about conversions. The fuel mileage is unbelievable. I am even thinking of building another malibu wagon, but using a cummins 4BT in it.

32mpg? That sounds completely insane! I would be happy with around 20mpg. Currently I'm getting around 15 highway with my 454 with a K&N and a Superchip, but I have been dabbling with diesel for the last few years with a my friends' Duramaxs and Cummins' and can't deny their natural ability.

I contacted PPE today and their gauge recommendation was to make a custom cluster using Autometer gauges. Does anyone recommend either doing this or going another route?

They recommend doing that way probably because its the easiest to get gauges to work. You will also need to address AC controller and actuators under the dash. Sterio, alarm, power windows and locks. All these work through the harness together in way or another.
If you can find a complete wrecked truck I think you would have a better looking product in the end. I missed out on one by 2K more then I had.
or if your building a race truck, no ac no bells and whistles the autometer set up is perfect.
I understand PPE offers a plug and play harness set to drop a deisel in and get it to fire up. I am waiting for a buddies to show up so I can look it over.

The thing is that I want to use this truck as a daily driver as well, so should I keep looking for an entire donor truck? Eric from PPE told me they can make custom harnesses for everything including pw, pl, a/c, etc. for around $1200. He recommended a 2" body lift to clear the allison, or find a 4L80E from a Duramax van, since it is set up electronically for the motor already. He mentioned something about an electronic gas pedal, but I'm not exactly sure how to go about installing one.
