Check engine light on. I think I have a dirty MAF sensor. How to clean without damaging sensor? 04 3500 Silverado crew cab dually with K&N FIPK kit, Bully dog stage 1 + 55hp and Dynomax 4" race magnum muffler. 93000 miles and no time to take to dealer to have codes checked. Help!

Go to radio shack or somewhere like a comp USA, Frys electronics, etc. and get some electronics cleaner spray. Kind that you spray on electronic equipment but do not need to wipe down. Spray it, let it evaporate, maybe with some compressed air (from one of those cans with the straw, also for electronics) and put it back together.

Change the plugs out on that diesel, too. Always helps out.

Maybe I can go with some colder plugs :-). Just started driving it Jan. 3, 04. I've been averaging 10000 miles a month hauling cars around the country. Thanks, I hope that helps cuz its gettin worse by the day. JT

the problem could be leaking injectors. another thing to look for is checking the intake ducting very closely. if any air is getting to the engine and not going through the maf, it will be a dog. as for cleaning the maf, i usually just use electric parts cleaner also.

I got the Precision Electronics Cleaner from Radio Shack with the little brush on the end. The MAF wires had a black residue on them and the little round brush fit in the hole just perfect to clean them up. I hope that does it, I have to pick up an old vette in Raleigh NC tomorrow.

What he said.

Air getting in without being read by the maf will make it smoke and lose power, but it sounds like you could have an injector problem.

I hope its not an injector problem, I have a couple of mountains to climb in WV and VA tomorrow. There will be a new Ford F350 in my driveway if the cleaning doesnt fix it and it has to go to the dealer for repairs.

I hope you have been changing your fuel filter often... a lot of D-max people have been installing an extra to avoid the costly injector problems.
Hope the cleaning works!

Fords injectors are failing too, so scratch that idea.
Check the level on your oil dipstick. Overfilled = leaky injector(s).

It wasnt a dirty MAF. I changed the fuel filter and its running like a raped ape now. The filer only had 13000 miles on it and wasnt due to be changed for another 7000. All I can think of is that I got a tank of bad fuel with a lot of sediment in it that clogged the fuel filter.
