Default E-fans...

Man I'm having a bitch of a time with this Flexalite fan control. No matter what I do it just doesn't seem to operate properly. When I start the truck the fans come on after the delay and continue to run. Then once I turn on the AC the clutch engages and the fans shut off for a second or two then come on at full power. When I shut the AC off they continue to run at full power. I haven't even gotten to the part where you adjust for the temp setting. Just for clarity, the signal wire from the AC is solid green right?

I'm thinking of ditching Flexalite's "VSC" and installing the Imperial thermal fan control. Will this work? What do you guys think?

The imperial thermal fan control is awesome! It works great with my lt1 fans and is really easy to install. It should work on your fans also. I just cut my a/c wire, didn't bother with it.

Yes the signal wire is drk green coming from the compresser relay located in the fuse block under the hood. There is another wire coming off that relay that is drk green with a white stripe so make sure you are not tapped into that.
I recently hooked up a set of these so I know it works.
Try this. Disconnect the AC lead to the VSC for now and just get it to work with the ignition positive lead hooked up.
Also check to make sure you have a good ground.
The temp sensor wires are very small and to get a good crimp you may need to strip it back a bit and fold the wire in half. If they come on after you start the truck like you say, then its not reading the temp correctly.
If it works with just the ignition wire and cycles off and on like it should you know that part is good.
Also check your AC tap wire with a meter or test light to verify that you have 12v when the compresser cycles.

Well I went back out this evening to give it another shot and wouldn't you know it the fans operate properly now. Turn the AC on and the fans come on, turn the AC off, the fans turn off. I let the truck warm up in the garage and when it got to operating temp I set the temp control and the fans kicked on and brought the temp down and then turned off. I took it for a spin around town without any problems. The fans didn't come on while driving and didn't come on even at a stop light but it was only 8 degrees when I took the truck out. Everything seems to be ok now. I think I may have had a bad connection or something. Thanks to everyone for the help!

Before you ditch it. Give flex-a-lite a call and they may be able to help you sort it out or send you an new VSC.

I hate to hear you are having so much trouble. I was thinking about installing thier new 295 fan on my 4.8. The 295 features the VSC and is sized for the smaller radiator.

Just two more questions. When you guys turn on the AC and the fans start, do they operate for a little bit then turn off or are they supposed to run all the time while the AC is on? My other question is, when the temp rises and the fans are just about to come on, do they "flicker" a little just before they turn on and then again just before they turn off? I'm thinking it's just where I had the temp switch set at so I turned it back a little to let the truck warm up a bit more before the fans kick in.

Yep, as long as the compresser is on, the fans are on. It does sound more and more like you have a suspect VSC. Call'em. If they ship you one for free, its worth it. especially for what you pay for these fans.

Thanks again guys, I was wondering if this controller was bad from the start. I know I'm not the best in the electrical department but I didn't think I should've been having that many problems. I plan on calling them tomorrow and getting a new VSC.
