17hp sounds exactly like the flex-a-lite add claims "Dyno tests showed a gain of 17HP & 20 Ft. Lb. torque at the wheels". I figure actuall power loss with the mechanical fan would vary depending on clutch engagement. I guess that I have a hard time believing manufactures claims most of the time.

yay they have them magical dyno's that give awsome numbers. i like the fatc that i have went on long trips with the family, luggage and a/c blowing cold and my fans never came on while i was on the freeway. gas mileage as well.

I think Flex-a-Lite claims a 5 to 7 HP gain. I like them because of the City increase in MPG and the ice cold AC when sitting in summer heat bumper to bumper traffic. The HP loss to amp draw is not that often. The fans run @ 60% when the AC compressor runs and this usually keeps the motor cool enough.
Tips to remember.
Get the latest fuse holder upgrade. This is the non-rubber covered unit that has 2 threaded terminals. The former have been recalled. If you have it call Flex-a-Lite and get the new one sent to you.
Make sure you have the second run VSC. It has 4 heat sinks instead of 2.
Make sure your VSC connections are on all the way and the wires secured so not to flop around.
After the install and the VSC's on\off range adjustment is complete, get some foil type duct tape or a rubber plug and seal the adjustment access hole. The board is said to be cold soldered so it needs to be protected from splash.
I had 2 MAXI fuse holders melt down. I now have an audio Amplifier type fuse in place. When monitoring the former MAXI holders they were hot to the touch and the wires going into them were really limp. The Audio type unit is much cooler and the wires don't show signs of over heating. I have Flex-a-Lite's new fuse holder but will not install it unless the one I have fails.
