Re: EATON POSITRAC
The master overhaul kit is not a posi rebuild kit, it's everything you need to install the eaton unit. I also have an open diff but, since I'm up there in miles, I'm going to do it right the first time.

Re: EATON POSITRAC
Sorry I didn't get to you earlier. A complete install kit from the dealer is about $165, and about $130 at most driveline shops. If you have over 10,000 miles on your bearings, I recommend that you change them, besides, they will probably rip apart when they try to take them off the original carrier. What he means about the carrier bearings being different, is that the Eatons carrier is thinner where the axles plug into the carrier, thus needing larger bearings and races to make it fit. No big deal, but no, your factory rear end does not have the correct bearings, only if you use an Auburn are they the same. Trust me on this. It is no big deal, you can get them from any driveline shop, and they would tell you anyway that you will need them. The factory bearings are Timken made, but they are cheaper than the ones you would get at a driveline shop. The factories are made by Timken FOR GM, with GM specs. The new bearings, when I got them in were heavier duty than stock. Like I said, this complete kit from a driveline shop is about $130 or so, and it includes all new parts for all bearings and races in the rear end, including seals! So $300 for the diff, about $130 for the bearings, and about $220 for the install, and about $20.00 for miscilaneous. All together about $650, this is now a completely rebuilt rearend, and is by far the best way to do it!

Re: EATON POSITRAC
I am pretty sure you will need new carrier bearings as the bearings that Eaton says you should use are larger than stock. Don't ans me why that's just the way it is, check the eaton site, you should see the same thing. About everything else I am not sure either. I am planning on doing this soon and am trying to figure out what all I need to have in addition to the Eaton. So far, all I know for sure is the carrier bearings and a new gasket. Not sure about shims, or pinion bearing (don't think I need these because I'm not swapping the gears), so I think the master overhaul is overkill. Again, not 100% sure though.
