Default Ebay 799's

Just bought a set of 799's off of Ebay for a great price(and free shipping). I guess what turned me on to these were that they are assemble line throw outs that don't have hardly any damage. I haven't received them yet, but the pictures I got from the seller look like a no brainer. And they are new, never used 799 castings. These do have the ls6 springs correct?? There are more left just search "799 heads" I have done a lot of research, but maybe not enough, I was going to mill these .030 to get the compression back up plus some but still didn't want to go to far in case I wanted to put these on a 6.0 block one day. What will .030 get me compression wise, I have calculated some were between 10.0 and 10.5 Is this right???????????????

799 due not come with ls6 springs , and millimg them .030 on a regular 5.3 would put you at like 9.9:1 i could be wrong , if you have an L33 then it will put you at 10.5:1 but L33 only came on 05 silverados/sierras 4x4

I have a lm7 which I believe is 9.5 to 1 comp. ratio so 9.9 would be a little bump in compression. What are the 799 springs rated for as far as cam lift???

Theyre stock springs, if you go with anything more than stock you will need to swap springs.

I was thinking the ls2 engine had 799 heads and some 243 heads both with ls6 springs?? It's not that big of a deal in the scheme of things to order a $56 dollar set of springs, I just don't want to replace possible ls6 springs. Are all ls6 springs you can buy today yellow or are some silver also???????

guys sorry to say but u might be wrong.. i member doing some research on these heads since it is the ones i have and altho they are not yellow i believe they are ment to handle the lift of ls6 springs.. if it matters when i swaped mine from my 799 heads to ls6 springs the only thing that changed was the color because they were the same size.. ill do some more research but next level might be rt... or i might be wrong.. but do to the bigger cam that came with the l33 engines also came more lift making those heads come with better springs.. that was just my understanding last time i looked up info on my heads... ill look for more and keep u posted.. either way ls6 springs r like 60 bucks..

Yeah I just don't want to spend $60 for no reason. There was a sticky that has all of the ls head variations with specs and a brief description about each casting and compatibility with ls blocks from that and other research I have done says there ls6 springs.

Well FYI stock, LS6, 918s and the PACs all look the same but the only way to really know is to put them on a spring tester. Any machine shop can do it so while youre getting them milled yank a spring off and see what they test out to, Im sure they wouldnt charge much if anything since all it is, is a little dial inidcator but it reads in lbs and you sadwich it and the spring the jaws of a vice and run it to coil bind.

Personally I wouldnt bother with those heads on your 5.3, its really not worth all the work for a very small gain. If they were ported Id use them. The only time I can really see using stock 243s is on an LQ4 or LQ9 for the really nice bump in CR since they start off with 71cc heads stock, your 5.3 starts off at 61 so youre not really gaining much CR wise and a little flow. Just my .02

Well, I'm going with a cam also, so I was thinking I would pick up a decent gain with the heads. Thinking about the Voodoo 212/218 .531 .531 113. What would you guys suggest cam wise with using these heads milled .030 and being its a bigger 4x4 truck. Should I go bigger to take advantage of those heads????
