Edelbrock Torker intake

does anyone know what the tube sticking out in front of the radiator hose is for? This air intake is an old Edelbrock Torker not Torker II. It cant be for the heater hose because it is hooked up on the left.

Ditto – was used on early small-blocks in conjunction with valve covers without an oil fill cap.
