Default EDIT and instrument clusters

If I were to get a new cluster, can it be reprogrammed by anyone other than the dealer? And if it can be reprogrammed by edit, is there anyone in SoCal that can do that for me?

The dealer can do it, but edit can't.

My local dealer could not do mine, would have had to send it off.

Cant they use a TECHII to do that? I never had my mileage transferred when I replaced my cluster. I figured they could do it with a TECHII. I could be wrong.

I've heard that a tech2 is the only thing that can do it.

No ... the dealership can't do it, it's a federal law that they not be able to. When they do cluster changes they have to send the new and the old off to a 3rd party company which does them. You can have these 3rd party companies do them individually as well. I had mine done at AutoCraft Industries of Dallas for 35 bucks I think. There are more than just that one too. Check with your local dealerships .. someone will tell you where to get it done at eventually.

Other than that .. there is nothing else to do to get the tranny temp gauge or the extra 20 on the speedo to function correctly. Just swap them out.

Yeah, I knew the thing would work, I just want the odometer to be accurate. IIRC they are supposed to put a sticker in the doorjamb otherwise when swapping them out.

Check around ... there are places that will do it. The dealership should be able to point you in the right direction. I was told they couldn't by about 6-8 dealerships before I found out about the place in Dallas.

They will require you to bring the old one in too, they probably won't go with the honesty policy. It's an easy swap too. pull the dash bezel off, 4 7mm bolts and a plug is all.

If dealers could do it every used truck on their lot would be ultra low milage!
