Efan hookup ?????'s
Most of you know the problems I had with my FAL efans recently. Well, the new replacement fan motors are to be here tomorrow, and while I said I would not be going back with them, the temptation is there. I really liked the way my truck felt and ran with the efans installed as opposed to the clutch driven fan. Anyways, if I do re-install the efans, I was thinking about running them strictly off of a switch. I really don't like the idea of having them tied into my air compressor or pcm like they were before and messed things up.
So that being said, has anyone here run their electric fans off of a switch only? My only question really is how would this work? There is a positive and negative wire coming out of each of the fan motors. Would one switch be able to run both fans? I realize that they would both run all the time but that would be okay. Also, I know that the fans are dual speed, would running them on a switch run them 100% speed or not? Anybody with ideas, chime in.

Ground both motors run a wire from the battery to the switch then from the switch to the two power wires for the motors. Probably need a pretty good size fuse for it too. Im not sure how the FAL's trigger the two different speeds. Does it use a relay for the two different speeds. If it is a relay to trigger the diff speeds the just splice a wire from a power source to the high speed trigger on the relay so once th relay gets power the fans will be on high.

I like it going to the compressor. Your a/c will suck till youre rolling, or turn them on. I am using a temp controller from pep boys, and am happy with that. I also run them at full speed any time they are on.

Well, to be completely honest, I only probably run my a/c about 15% of the time I actually drive. So thats not a big issue. Plus the fact that piggybacking the fans off my a/c has already caused problems with my a/c system once that I just got fixed. So I really do not want to go down that road again. I like the idea of a switch cause I can flip them on whenever needed, and off on highway driving.
I really don't think that it would be that big of a deal, but looking for suggestions here. It will determine whether or not I go back with E-fans or stay with the stocker.

Get the temp controller like white1 said. I know you probably dont think so right now but you are going to get distracted by your cell phone gf or something and be driving around in hot weather and forget to turn them on and overheat your truck. If it was me I would get the temp controller and do it that way seems alot easier and you dont have ot worry about it effecting the other stuff on your truck.

Well, I wouldn't necessarily be opposed to running them off a temp probe through the radiator like that, but I absolutely refuse to wire them into my a/c cooling system again. That won't happen. I'll just sell them to someone else before I do that again.

My main concern with just the switch (and yes it can be done that way to answer your question) is if anyone else ever drives my truck for whatever reason, they may not know, or remember to turn the fans on. I fried a temp switch cause I had my head up my *** when I wired it up, and didn't have any problems when I was on the interstate, only when stopped.

I'm thinging of doing the same thing to mine e-fans (Hard wire). One thing I would thing about is wiring them in using a relay, Two fans on high might draw too many amps for one switch, but I don't know for sure.

Definitely use a relay. Mine are hardwired at the moment. I have a switch running into my cab so I can turn them on. I pretty much always leave it on because I'm afraid someone else will drive it and not turn them on. I need to try to run a two speed switch or something. Both fans on high suck a lot of air but are also kinda loud. Stiff an improvement over the clutch fan though.
