EGR block off plate mod

EGR block off plate mod
Just did a new EGR mod. Well it has been around for a while but I have not read about anyone that has done it. The EGR mod on LS1s have been to just cut the tube that enters the intake behind the TB. In the S10 world we have been restricting the gases and getting some performance gains. What I did on a 2000 5.3 truck was unbolt the EGR tube from the exhaust manifold. using the stock gasket as a templet I cut a flat piece of aluminum that would fit between the manifold and the EGR tube. I also cut out another gasket to seal everything up. What I did different from the stock gasket was to not cut the center hole out for the gases to pass through. Instead I drilled a small hole in place of the big hole. By only allowing a small amount of EGR gases to pass through the sensor you satisfy the computer and boost under 70% full throttle performance. Your EGR sensor shuts off at 70%+ WOT. ( 90% sure on that %). I did not have my camera on me on this first mod but will have a performance article wrote this week and all the details about this mod.
What are some thoughts on this mod and also has anyone done or heard of this mod??

Re: EGR block off plate mod
I blocked off the whole thing with a similar aluminum plate. Then removed the whole EGR solenoid and made another block off for the intake. Turned off EGR in the PCM with LS1 edit. My thoughts - It didn't help at all. Probably hurt some, as I started getting part throttle pinging. I found several references that say the EGR is a good for preventing part throttle ping. So I put mine back on.

Re: EGR block off plate mod
I have used a restrictor...basically a sheet of alum punched to half the hole size and put into place. I've done this on my 2.4L Cavalier and on my truck. I have not found any hard numbers to support its effectiveness. In theory it should still work.
