Default EGR help

I recently tried to cut my EGR inside the throttle body on my 99 5.3 Sierra. The only problem is when I was cutting it the pipe broke behind where it goes in the intake manifold. So then I made a makeshift thing to cover the whole and crimped the brass pipe. My question is what are the effects of taking off the entire system and blocking the holes off. I know i can get a 1 3/8" freeze plate from autozone and can make something for the exhaust manifold. I don't really care about the SES light I am only concerend about power loss or affects on drivabilty. I drive a lot for work and relibilty is a big issue. Thanks for any advice.

I'm curious as well. I did the same exact thing as you. I've put alot of miles on the truck since, and haven't noticed anything different. Let us know something guys.

Hey slow process today I went by autozone and bought a 1 3/8" freeze plug. It worked really well. Now I just need to block it off at the manifold and take the whole system out. Still I wonder if anyone knows the negative effects.

Most of the negative effects I have seen from deleting the EGR include higher cylinder temperatures, increased Nox emissions, and possible pre-ignition(spark knock).

So what do the new trucks without egr use to avoid these problems? I too would like to get rid of my egr.

I'd say go for it I've had it off for a few days and can't tell a diffrence one way or the other. I think it's all bull personally and this may be ignorance but I don't see how putting hot exhaust gas and dumping carbon all in the intake can be good. I know my intake will be a lot cleaner now. As long as you take it off and dont break it then have to take it off like I did you can put it back on if you don't like it.

I'm not sure what they do to no longer need egr, that's a good question. I know that Toyota was able to compensate for egr with variable valve timing...not sure what GM did though. I'm sure someone here knows.
