Default Electric fan mounting position.

Right now, I have the LS1 fans about an inch off the radiator with foam to seal around the edges. Would I get better cooling if I made brackets to move it a few inches off the radiator and fab a shroud for it? With it right on the radiator, am I getting a "straw" type effect, where only certain parts of the radiator are seeing cool airflow?

J/W because it's getting how out and when I'm idling in traffic for 10 minutes or so and it's high 90's out, my truck starts to creep over the 210 mark, and it's never done that before. IDK if the Radix heat exchanger is contributing to the problem, but I would rather not go back to the clutch fan. Besides, I think I sold the thing a while back. Thanks for any suggestions.
