Default emergency/rear brakes

ok so i heard that our parking brakes are pices of **** and fail...well i tried mine out the other day and just as i suspected, mine dont hold for ****. i heard that becuase of the way they fail they trash your rear rotors so you gotta get new rotors and shoes. i was wondering if its worth gettin gsome after market rotors and shoes, like some slotted rotors. i didnt know if the aftermarket rotors had the built it parking brake drums though. anyone got any reccomendations?

Got my slotted rotors, performance pads, and ceramic e-brake shoes at www.praisedynobrake.com, and I'm really happy with it. Only been about 3k, but it stops on a dime, with no noise and very little dust. Whole deal cost about $850 shipped, I'm pretty sure that's less $$$ than factory stuff too.

If your lucky, the e-brake may just need adjusting out at the shoes. There was a problem with the retaing clip for the shoes from the factory. New shoes should only be about 35-40 bucks a side.

If there good, loosen the adjusting nut on the park brake cable all the way . Then tighten the shoes just like a set of drum brakes. The tighter the better. Then tighten the adjustor nut untill the park brake feels good. Ive seen alot of people try to adjust the brake by putting spacers behind the adjuster and not adjust the shoes out. There lucky if it works.

850 was for all 4 rotors, pads, and e-brake shoes. I would imagine that the rears would be about half of that.

If you replace them with stock, make sure and get the new retaining clip. Part of the problem with them was they did not sit correctly and always rubbed a little.
This retaining clip will keep them in the right location.
