Default Emission Friendly Header

Do they make any emission friendly headers for the 5.3 in California? I have seen Gibson and I assume that they are, but I am not sure. Also, will headers like the Gibson ones change the sound of my truck much?

Doug Thorley headers are also CARB compliant and come with it stamped on the headers or with a tag. They have fitings for the O2 sensor and AIR fitings also.

Being TRI-Y headers, these should give you good low end torque, but not as much high end HP as TOG's

I've been told that shorty headers (the only ones that are smog legal) aren't worth the time or money. Or even 10% of the time or money. I went to JBA here in San Diego and the told me I would pay about a kilobuck for 15-20 RWHP using their shortys, but I'd bet the gain would be less than that....

It is from what I've been told on here ... TOG's are CARB certified or whatever it is. They have a CARB sticker that comes with them.

Me .. personally, I wouldn't deem them certified if they weren't coated. Long tubes move the o2 sensor to far back to not be coated. An uncoated header will not heat the o2 up as much as it needs to be which makes it give flase readings. The end result is you run pig rich.

To get a California Air Resources Board (CARB) sticker the cats have to stay the same distance from the block as stock. You can have shorty headers up to the forward cat flange, and cat-back exhaust from the rear flange rearward, but that's it. I don't think any long-throws or even medium throws that place the cats further back than stock are either smog legal or CARB certified.
