So your truck isn't burning any oil at all. If you only fill to 5 quarts and need 6 quarts and at 3k miles your showing only one quart low your doing fine but need to add that 6th quart. No need for oil additives.
What I meant was, I have always changed my oil myself. until this last time, I always put in 6quarts. it's showing to be 1quart low, it's highly possible the idiot put in 5 quarts not 6. so i'm going to change the oil myself, put in 6quarts and see what happens. unless other wise advised. Does the 2003 have the pcv system? should i use kn breathers? catch can? i've been told to do all of this lol

In equipment that does not burn or leak oil Amsoil in my experience will outlast other oils. I have tested and use a lot of them since 1989-1990 and have found no better performing oil.
There are different strategies that can be used for maintenance based on time, miles or condition based. Using condition based would require testing the oil and there are several benefits to that besides oil life. No matter which type of strategy one picks installing a bypass filter system will save equipment and oil wear while saving one money!
One thing I found is that Amsoil is not expensive when used correctly, way too many people change oil before they need to out of fear, myth, or habit.

How exactly would oil get sucked into the intake manifold? If you are using conventional oil's such as Castrol, Penzoil, Valvoline, etc then yes, change your oil and filter approximately every 3k miles. Some other oils, such as Mobil 1, Royal Purple, Amsoil, etc can be run much longer between changes. They each have different recommendations from the manufacturer. These more expensive oils are formulated and tested to last much longer before the molecules begin to break down, when compared to $2.50/quart conventional oils. If you want to run the absolute best oil available, buy Amsoil. Run it as long as advised per Amsoil. Mobil 1 is another great synthetic oil. I personally run Mobil Clean 5000, rated at 5k miles. I have changed it the last two times at 4k miles, and I will tell you that judging by the clarity and color of the oil, I would have had no problem running it for another 2k miles. It is a GREAT value for those that would rather have a bit higher quality oil at a very reasonable price.

Go buy a $4 PCV valve and replace your original with it. I really doubt you need to completely reconfigure your PCV system...

Ive got 185000 on my 5.3 sierra. It dosent use a drop of oil between changes. Ive ran full synthetic since 30,000 and change it every 4,000. My grandpa had an 03 with 75,000 on it when he sold it. And it used a quart between changes. I guess some of the 5.3s had a problem with burning oil that year, or so ive heard.
