Engine coolant? Does it have to be orange?
Question. Currently all I have is water for my coolant. I bought some coolant in a hurry and it is the green stuff. The manual says to use nothing but Dextron Orange. I don't think it matters if I use the green stuff right? I mean it's still 50/50 water and ethylnol glycol right?

if that truck has any orange in it at all it will cause it to jell up. if you have flushed it out completely and it has absolutely no orange in it then you can use the green stuff. i used the green stuff in my silvy for two years with no bad effects at all.

buy the yellow stuff, and don't think about it. The new prestone that mixes with any kind of coolant. Dex Orange erodes plastic and rubber parts, switch away from it as soon as possible.

Dex-cool is recommended because of the additives it has in it to prevent corrosion of aluminum. Reason it's needed to be used is because of the aluminum heads.
At least that's what GM service department says.
I'm sure other color coolants have the corrosion preventitive additive too.
It just needs to be researched though.
Oh...yeah, don't mix different coolants.

many people including manufactures of all kinds of auto's have and will use green coolant in aluminum engines. foreign cars have been using it for years. i use it in industrial engines for years and still do. as a matter of fact we are changing the orange out for green due to leaks that cause it to crystalize. the green will work in aluminum and will not hurt it one bit. and. with the green you can leave the cap loose if need be in an emergency situation.

My coolant brand is PRIME. I just took the time while filling up the coolant system with it to read the back of the jug. It says it mixes with any other coolant brand and is great for aluminum, etc. So yeah, cool
