Default Engine keeps overheating! Solutions?

The 100*+ temps here in LA are a pain in stop and go traffic. Since flex-a-lite fans are a piece of crap, only the driver side fan is working. I've got the 160* thermostat, which helps a little. When its real hot on the highway the engine temp stays around 180-190*. In stop and go traffic or just sitting for long periods of time, it gets anywhere from 200* to past the 210* mark! I added about 6-8 capfuls of water wetter and it doesn't seem to help, if anything I think it made it worse.

Should I drain all the coolant out and fill it halfway with distilled water and the rest 50/50 coolant/water mix and 6-8 capfuls of water wetter? Could you guys tell me what I should do? I have no idea how to drain the coolant and all that stuff, but want to learn! Thanks!

Yeah, try less coolant, more distilled water, and a bottle of water wetter.

Get that 2nd fan running. Wire it to a second fuse and a stand alone relay that you can activate as needed.

is it the vsc that flex-a-lite provides whats acting up? or is the fan motor cooked. i suggest a nelson fan harness and tune for your flex-a-lites. i can leave my truck parked in 100+ weather for hours and never go much over the 180 mark. i have the flex-a-lite 292's

How do I go about doing the coolant?

This fan went out before, the fan motor screwed up some way or another. I called flex-a-lite (when it was still under warranty) and got another one after about 3-4 weeks of arguing with them. Anyways, less than a week later, it stopped working. How do I check to see if it's the motor or something in the vsc? I took my fans off and re-did all the crimps on the connectors and checked the wiring...nothing. I was just gonna buy another fan motor ($118) and get the Nelson fan harness. But, if there is a cheaper way to go about this please let me know!

Thanks for the replies!
