Engine noise
Hi I just installed a Hypertech programmer on my 2005 silverado 5.3L 2wd Truck. I was told the best settings for the Rev limiter is 6100RPM, with shift points at +3, +9, +5. I put the Rev limiter to 6000RPM and the shift points at +2, +3, +3, to test it and around 60MPH (100km/h) a noise comes from the engine. I sounds like the lifters ticking. Is this a problem or is this just a 5.3L thing?
Thanks
Thanks

Do not keep letting it do that. Do not let the motor rev in the higher RPM range until you have a higher grade fuel cycled through.
Think about this. You want to run 87 oct fuel. You want performance at the same time. Will a $5.00 more fill-up really hurt you??? That's the difference in filling up with a low grade fuel and a premium grade fuel.
If $5.00 more hurts you..........then you should not be in the performance market. More HP & TQ gains cost $$$$.
Just select the high octane tune of the programmer. You will get more performance from it. The little extra money for the supreme fuel will not hurt you.

What rpms are you experience your ticking problem? If they are around 6000 rpm then you are hearing valve floating need stouter springs. If the noise is coming from low rpms then it is like everyone else has said DETONATION.

I still think it is valve float, you might what to put the factory rev limit in and see if that won't fix you problem. Most programmers like your Hypertech, Superchips and Diablo are not designed to get the most significant horsepower of it, they do not push the engine to there limits. I know SuperChips does a lot of test to get the most out you engine without causing harm to the engine, they do this so they can not get the **** sued out them. If you are experiencing detonation (knocking or preignition) you will notice it, here is some spark plug tell-tell signs of preignition. I have seen some bad preignition problems caused by carbon build (thick layer) up on the top of the piston.
