Default Engine Swap Questions? Please Help

Fellow Backyard/Professinal Truck Mechanics,

I need your help. I posted the following on another forum about a week ago and am not getting any response. Im wondering If I am just an Idiot or what. I have a 96' GMC Z71 with a 5.0L engine and a trans with a major slip, I am looking to rebuild this vehicle with a new motor, headers,CAI,rebuild trans, Rear, & a 2-3" Lift. This will be primarily for Offroad use but I will be driving it on the street fairly regularly. I am asking simply the following:

Does anyone know If I can use the following crate motor in my 96' Sierra Z71?

http://www.crateenginedepot.com/stor...041-P18C2.aspx

I am looking to swap the current 5.0L with a 5.7L I have done a bit of investigation and found I should only need to swap the computer & Knock Sensors. all else should work from the 5.0L. Am I right about this ?

Any input would help!!!!!!!!!!

I'm no expert on the GenII motors but seem to remember there being an issue with intake manifolds mating up to the Vortec heads. The other thing I noticed is that motor is listed for "competition or off road use", or non-emission compliant. If you require emission testing in your area you might have a problem passing.

In this case I would have to do an aftermarket Intake Manifold. Good News they are pretty cheap. WooHoo. Anyone else know if this motor would work & or is a good choice ?

Should work fine. If yours is a 96, you already have the Vortec heads, so your intake should work fine.
