Default Engine/Trans?

I need some suggestions. I may be able to score on a 1993 Silverado SWB Stepside Reg Cab that is without its engine/trans. The Body and interior are in excellent shape. I will be out only the cost of having it towed to my house.
Is it worth getting this truck? I would like to eventually put a strong engine/trans combo in it. What are some of your suggestions.
I am also looking to do this w/o spending a ton of money.
Would it be easier to do a carb/non-emission setup or go with something current?
Thanks for any suggestions.

LS1+T56+OBS truck= nice strong DD combo.... the EASIEST thing to do would be to throwa carb'd 350 in there with a TH350/400 or 700R4.... there are TONS of combos that will work well in that shell. What are your ultimate goals for it?

I am just looking for the easiest way to make a it a strong running and dependable ride. Something that is quicker than most stock pickups from the factory. The body is in great shape. And I really like the look of the Stepside reg cab.
Eventually lower the stance slightly and put some nice wheels on it.
If I were to get a built carbed 350 how much trouble is it going to be to have everything hooked up properly while still running the factory air?
Will the stock computer need replacing? Any other Wiring trouble?
