Even if the roller on the lifter locked up it shouldn't have damaged the lobes like that so it's definately from a soft cam. I don't think I've ever seen one with wear like that though so that's a decent failure rate. HAHA!

There was no chance of warranty because of the age of the cam, but in my dream world they might have done something if it was their fault. Today I found out that Comp said there was nothing wrong with the cam, a hardness test said it was OK. They said the same of their 875 (Pro R) lifters. They suggested that the lifter trays were allowing the lifters to wiggle. I say B. S. I know the trays should have been replaced at the time of the rebuild, but there is no cracks or lifter play. There is nothing wrong with the build specs otherwise, I say there must have been porosity in the cam lobes or lifter rollers. But if there was, it is worn away.
I am not naming Comp as the manufacturer to somehow punish them, I think it is a freak occurrence. I am just letting you know whose cam it was because it is silly not to. I don't think my little problem will affect anybody's opinion of Comp, in fact I am replacing it with another Comp.
This time I am going to take my chances with stock LS7 lifters, The Comp Rs were too noisy. And new lifter trays, of course.
