Default Evap canister line

Is it possible to replace the brittle plastic line from the evap canister with a rubber hose? Same diameter and everything? Ive been running a rubber hose for awhile now and no codes popped up until last night... now it showing a p0442 Btw its on a 2005 silverado... im pretty sure my rubber hose is not messed up cause i recently passed smog with it... so im positive it might be the canister.. 😬

your code might be as simple as a loose or bad gas cap

po441
A loose or improperly affixed gas cap
A non-conforming gas cap (i.e. not factory/original brand)
A small leak/hole in a fuel vapor hose/tube Other small leak in EVAP system
Faulty vent o-ring seal
Defective vent valve
Defective purge valve
Defective leak detection pump

it can be anything and with out checking it on a high end scanner your really just guessing

As long as it's not rubber heater hose. It needs to be rated for emissions.
In CA though you shouldn't have issues with the plastic lines.

They make rubber hose especially for fuel vapor. It will be very cheap if you buy it "cut by the foot" at the local parts store. Check the line that you installed and see if it says "fuel line" or "fuel vapor." Either should work but the fuel line will have a higher pressure rating. The factory nylon lines are pretty durable in non turbo applications. I have only ever seen them fail in imports. They do make special unions for repair of the nylon line as they is pretty cheap and easy way to fix it. Again since you already made a repair you probably don't care about that.

Did you happen to use the factory style bundy connectors with your rubber hose?

That part is around $30 new... I Just bought one about 6 months ago when I did my heads and cam because I thought I pinched it and didn't want to risk it having a crack.

30 bucks isn't bad but you could still do it yourself for less. 5/16th bundy connectors on amazon and cut by foot hose at local store. probably half that price.
