The truck is my dd. Next upgrade is a posi keeping my 3.42s a stall would be sick but not for mpgs and seeing as it is a mild build dd mpgs are important. I know the tq converter would not affect highway mpg but would kill my city.

I would eventually like to build a custom mid rear mount turbo pushing 5-6psi

What equation are you using to calculate this?

Ive tried almost every singe exhaust combination on both my trucks, here is what ive learned. All the different setups are a 5.7 engine with dual magnaflow mufflers dumped at rear axle.

Stock Y merge in factory exhaust- This is a huge power killer! Cutting this off and running true duals from this point back (even with manifolds and cats) gains a lot of power! Per the butt dyno.

3.0" True duals without X or H- Really sluggish, 02 sensors did no get hot enough to show ready in obd2 status, PCM stayed in open loop.

2.5" True duals without a X or H- Really hurts low/mid range torque, better that dual 3" though.

2.5" True duals with H pipe- A little better than no X or Y, just a little though. Also made the exhaust much louder?

2.5" True duals with X pipe- Great power across the entire power band, huge improvement on the butt dyno. My favorite setup by far.

The exhaust shop would re weld 2.5" duals for $150 if I bring the mufflers. What do you think about leaving the 3" pipes till the x pipe then after the x pipe running 2.5" back. That way I dont have to by new cats or x pipe?

That would probably work out fine.

I ran pace setter long tubes into individual 3" magna flow high flow cats, down to a 3" y pipe to a single 2.5" walker muffler then out the back and love it. It sounds stock for the most part, but still has a nice cam lobe when ideling and nice rumble to hint maybe more then what meets the eye. You can hear the aggressiveness when you get down on it, not the obnoxious exhaust clatter that alot of guys have. I like to hear my radio. Not listen to exhaust all day.
