Default exhaust plan... Yes or No?

I'm going to be doing a new exhaust setup at the end of the week. Right now I'm wanting to do a dual in, single out magnaflow and bring the pipe behind the rear tire like stock because I already have a dual/dual muffler. The mufflers I'm looking at are 2 of the biggest magnaflows, part numbers 12580 and 12588. One is single 3"in/dual 2.5" out. The other is single 2.5" in/dual 2.25" out. These mufflers are reversible so I will just switch them around, and either muffler could be welded up but I'm not sure which size piping to run with a bolton 5.3. Also does this sound like a good setup? Would the flow be any better on a Y pipe vs dual in,single out setup? I'm not doing a dual setup so that I can retain more torque and I'm also looking to go quieter, now I have a dual/dual flowmaster 50 series that exits before the rear passenger tire.
thanks guys-ryan

bump- I'm wondering if I should just do a Y-pipe then a single muffler, the Y might result in better exhaust flow. Need some opinions on this... should be heading to the exhaust shop this saturday
thanks

Y-pipe would benefit you, i'm going to be changing my exhaust to a true dual type set up. Two single chamber mufflers, not sure if i'm going w/ magnaflows or IMCO's. But I'm using my current tips, cutting them a little shorter and re-routing it to go before the tire, like an SSS exhaust. it'll be 1 in 1 out on each muffler, of course, since its true dual.

But, what your doing sounds good, that and some new lt headers or even some shorties if you dont want to spend as much will benefit you well.

I think the 2X 2 1/4 would choke it down too much

Youd probably be more happy with that 2x 2.5" in 3"out
flowmaster Y pipe

probably be a cleaner install too

thanks, yeah I think I will go with the dual2.5/single 3" I've already got the dual pipes going to the muffler so I'll just have them reverse it and bring the 3" out back behind the tire. I'm looking to quiet it down alot, my flowmaster (dual/dual 50 series) has some miles on it and doesn't sound good at all. I might get some headers but don't know if I wanna spend the money just yet... If so I'll go with the Pacesetter coated Longtubes and have the exhaust shop run it to the dual inlet muffler, I think I will keep the cats, keep it a little quieter and I think I might need some backpressure with the setup I have now.
