Default exhaust sizing?

I have my exhaust cut off right after the merge and 2.5" piping going into a 2.5 single in dual out magnaflow and turned down right out of the muffler. Would is really benefit me with the intake, fans, and reprogrammed pcm to upgrade to 3"?

I think that a 3" would be good. I always heard the rule of thumb is:

2.5"= good up to about 350
3"= 350 to about 450

More or less these are just ruff estimate.
