It's not that quiet in person lol. I do like being able to hook up a trailer and listen to talk radio at a low volume.

I have a large-ish Magnaflow and stock cats, still a little loud for my liking.
What size tailpipe after the muffler?

I can't tell if that's just the way it's supposed to sound, or if there's something wrong.

There is a low tone to it, from the muffler, but this higher pitched almost like a ping sound. It's definitely not coming from the engine compartment - I can say that much because when I had leaking manifolds the sound was definitely from inside the engine bay, this seems to be under the car.

Any ideas?

Thanks!!
Do you still have the stock muffler from your 2500HD? I'm about to drive my truck from Texas to West Virginia and don't care to listen to my aftermarket muffler for that long.

@TXsilverado - no I don't have it anymore, exhaust shop kept it. I'm going back to exhaust shop tomorrow to get it quieter. I'm thinking we'll add another muffler or at the very least a resonator. There's got to be a way to quiet it down without losing performance. For what it's worth, I've done a few thousand miles with the aftermarket muffler drone - it wasn't that bad. I struggled more with my bluetooth FM transmitter as I went through cities.

@68Formula Until yesterday I thought it was a 3.000" but I took it to a shop and they said it was a 3.5 or a 3.250 - I didn't believe them until I really looked at it, and sure enough it's larger.

I've accepted the tinny sound of the headers as just being a byproduct of cheap headers - lesson learned. I may look at wrapping them to reduce sound. Hopefully whatever is done to quiet it down reduces some of that sound as well.

A transition from the muffler outlet down to a 3" tailpipe would lower the sound level and give it a lower tone without a loss in performance. Or add the resonator as well as the 3" tailpipe for a definite quieter exhaust.

Get the Vibrant Resonator they are so purdee

I'd get the largest & longest one I could fit or maybe one of their small race mufflers along with your existing muffler(s)

Two resonators lowered the noise just enough after my Magnaflows were fully broken in (gotten louder with mileage).

@RedXray it looks like your resonators are before the mufflers, is that right?

The exhaust shop I’m using said they can’t put resonators in front of the mufflers.

Just got a big one put on basically at the end of the tail pipe, helps a bit with the sound but didn’t quiet it down much

Seen OEMs run them before the muffler, after the muffler, and even both. Not sure what the advantage and disadvantages are. Most trucks seem to be after the muffler.

My tails have a lot of bends and I figured the long pipes before the muffler would be the easiest place. My muffler guy is great and only charged me $25
