how does exhaust temps correlate to timing advance?

more timing=??? heat

Off the top of my head, too lean and your EGT's go up. And too rich, and your EGT's go up.

I don't recall what happened with my EGT when I played with timing.

Before my wideband, I tuned via EGT. As long as I hit 1500-1550 at WOT, I was happy. For each degree of timing I added in after hitting my ideal A/F via EGT tuning, I added a point of fuel to that RPM/Load range.

Granted this was for a turbo 4 cyl...

Im thinking its retard=more heat because of it burning the fuel later

does that sound right?
