Default A few questions

Hi all, my parts pile is starting to grow and I've got a few questions

1st: Are the stock 00 5.3 valve spring retainers identical to the ones on Pre 05 z06 corvettes? I ask because I'm getting the yellow LS6 beehives and want to make sure my stock retainers will work.

2nd: I was wondering if anyone knows exactly how much lift the yellow springs are good to? I've seen anywhere from .550 to .580. I plan to use a comp 265 highlift cam (.558/.563) and just wanted to quadruple check that these are suitable springs for my application.

3rd: How much better is a 5 angle valve job vs. a 3 angle? My instructor at school is going to do this for me so I know it will be done right but is it worth the hassle?

And lastly, when doing a cam swap what do you guys do about your oil pumps and timing chains? As far as what to get for a mild motor?

Sorry if these are dumb questions I just want to make sure i do this right the first time. Thanks for all the help guys.

Clint

1 when u replace ur springs u should be able to use the factory retainers.. 2 from what I understand just the Z06 springs are .550 and the Lingenfelters are something like .570. 3 cant help ya, haha and lastly I wouldnt worry about the oil pump for just a cam swap. as for Timing, Im replacing the chain and both sprockets just to be safe and might as well while Im in there ya know? But other than that replace the lifters IMO and u should be all set

well my problem is that 8 of my retainers are too rusty to be reused. And I'll be buying the yellow springs through patriot but I guess I'll have to call them and ask?

Well, i figured out through a few hours of research and a few phone calls that the yellow LS6 prings are good to a .580 max lift. And I will be reusing my stock retainers and locks with the new springs. However, I'd still like to hear the benefits of a 5 angle vs. a 3 angle valve job? I'm sure someone on here can shed some light. Thanks
