Default finally doing the swap

I currently have a 05 GMC ccsb 4wd with the 5.3 and the. 4l60. I've been looking around for cams and think I'm going with the comp 212/218 I believe it is. Also I'm not quite sure about the meaning of LSA. I know what it means. But I do want it to chop real hard so I need to go with the lowest LSA correct? Also im doing this cam Just so I don't have to put a stall in it right now , which I do plan on adding one soon. Unless there is a slightly bigger can that will work better. I also am installing LT's, off road y pipe to a magna flow with a cutout. Already have a CAI and custom tune but will be going back. In a few months I plan on swapping intakes and heads once I find some. Probably some 243's. I'm running 285' with 17's what's a good gear to get it moving a little quicker. And also are there anything else I need to do during this swap that I'm missing. Thanks JD

you want a higher LSA for less chop, what about a tune?

but that cam won't be anything too bad.

LSA is lobe separation angle. It is the number of degrees between the exhaust valve closing and the intake valve opening. With a low LSA, usually below 114 or so you will get into valve overlap where the exhaust valve is not quite closed and the intake is starting to open. This is helpful at higher rpm's, as the exhaust leaving the cylinder creates a vacuum and pulls the fresh mixture in during that short time that both valves are open together.

This overlap is not so helpful at lower rpm's and causes that rough idle.

A good combo with a low LSA cam is long-tube headers and a higher stall converter. If you are planning on having boost in the future, a low LSA cam is a bad idea, as having both valves open together will result in a portion of the charge being blown through the combustion chamber and out the exhaust before the exhaust valve closes.

Good luck with the build.

Will the 212/218 do good with a 278mm 3200 stall and 4.10 gears and possibly a true trac. That's what I been considering and just wanted to ask on the set up before making the finally purchase and possibly spraying a little later on?
