Default Finally ordered the cam......

It's a VHP 044....210º/218º .531/.531 114lsa

It should be here in a few days.....if I can get the head gaskets and ARP bolts in a hurry I plan on doing the install before Christmas if I can.

With the swap to LS1 heads, which will bump the compression to 10.4:1, the new cam, and the SuperMaxx LT's what kind of power guesses do you guys have....this combo will be run on my current CMotorsports custom tune for a few weeks 'till I can get in to have them tune it again

Are the LS1 heads worked at all? I would think that your setup will make some pretty nice numbers once its retuned. I really would be surprised to see more than 20 rwhp before tuning. After tuning with some good heads 40-50 doesnt seem too unattainable. This is just wild guessing. I havent really gotten what Ive expected from most mods, but thats what keeps us spending money

Did you take smog check into consideration when choosing a cam? I want to do a cam swap but I'm worried about the Cali smog ****'s

That sounds like a pretty nice set-up, you'd definitely benefit from a good converter.

If this cam doesn't pass smog I'll eat my shorts....hell, I'll eat your shorts

Seriously though....this cam should pass no problem, Lunati's Stealth cam and the Thunder Racing TR220 and TR224 will pass smog and they are a lot biger than this cam, even on the stock tune I shouldn't see any problem

Oh, and I'm not real worried anyway...I live in Inyo County, we only smog check once when the vehicle is registered, there is no yearly check here

i realize that you are using a head cam combo that will help make up for a little smaller cam but why so small of a cam and depending on the heads mebbe 50+rwhp i am hoping for 60+ rwhp out of mine with a 212/218 and i am guessing you should not be far off of that but again not sure exactly what done to your heads

Mainly drivability......I want it to be 100% reliable and drivable

Given that the '99 stock cam specs are: 191º/190º .456/.467 114lsa this is going to be a very big jump in size.....19º of intake duration, 28º of exhaust duration and .060 lift is a pretty big jump

Remember that I'm working with a 6.0 here too....an extra 39cid over the 5.3 is certainly gonna help in the power production department, I've looked at dynos of this heads/cam/header combo on a 5.7 and it's good for about ~60hp, add in the extra displacement and higher compression and I figure ~70hp

BTW....other than polished chambers the heads are stock......I see no real gain in porting them with a cam this small
