Default first oil change?

well, i've had my '05 for less than a week, but I'm already thinking about the first oil change. I'll probably change it after I hit 500. What oil do you guys run in your trucks? how many quarts? My truck is an '05 5.3. TIA

doesnt brand new engine oil have solvents and soaps and such that help the break in period, i always thought it was a good idea to run your new oil till your normally scheduled maintenace, i use mobil 1 synthetic, right now its really hot so i use 10w-30, in winter i use 5w-30. like it even matters, they hold 6qt's.

I use Amsoil 10W30 ATM in the summer and Amsoil 5W30 ATM in the winter. I use a Baldwin B1432 filter which is the equivalent to the AC Delco PF59. I use the GM Oil monitoring system on my truck and it was 10000 miles since the last change. I did my first change at 3000 miles and used dino GM 10W30 and a PF44 filter supplied free by the dealer. The engine takes 6 quarts unless they changed the capacity since '03.

I changed mine at 3,084 miles the first time and run Mobil One 5w-30 but don't know if there's a 'right' or 'optimal' time. I don't believe in waiting for the truck to tell me when to change it,though. I check it at least once a week and don't like for it to pass a certain shade of brown...un-scientific but to each his own I guess. I usually use Wix filters.

i'd recomend a new pf 46 with some standard 10w30 oil. make sure to reset the oil life moniter. after the change oil lite comes on after that, i'd use mobil 1 10w30 in the summer and 5w30 in the winter with a pf46.
