Fix up 4.8 or engine swap?
I am in the middle of deciding whether to fix up my existing 4.8 or wait for 50,000mi to roll by and the warranty to end and then get like a 6.0.....What should i do?!?!?! How fast could I possibly make the truck with the present 4.8 w/o voiding my warranty???? Also no SC, N20, or TC....thanks

well.... with no SC, n20 or TC you wont be making it very fast. those are the BEST mods out there. if you dont want to do any of that stuff you could toss a couple of bolt on's on there till you are ready to swap in the 6.0. you will be lucky to make it run with a stock 5.3 with your restrictions.

1. a supercharger wont void the warranty, no mods void the warranty.
2. think of it this way... a complete 6.0 swap will be roughly the same ammount as s/cing ur 4.8. A s/ced 4.8 beats a 6.0 but then again, if u have unlimited funds then go 6.0
3. parish, what do u mean u cant make it run with a stock 5.3?

Re: Fix up 4.8 or engine swap?
I have out ran a 5.3 twice and a 6.0 in a 4x4 with my 4.8, I didn't have any mods against the 5.3 but I did against the 6.0. My truck has the 5 speed which I think gave me the advantage. I thought about a S/C also but decided to go with an LS1 / T56 which I am in the middle of swapping now.

RacerBill - Just wait and swap in the 6.0L. They can be found for alot cheaper than most of the current supercharger kits and would be pretty much a direct swap. With the money you save over the supercharger you could probably put heads/cam/headers on the 6.0L and have a nice reliable/powerful truck.
John
6gear - That's cool. Let us know how that T56 swap goes. It takes a nice big stall for most automatics to keep up with comparable(powerwise) manuals on the road.

Re: Fix up 4.8 or engine swap?
yea you heard me right, 4.8 with the limited mods he is willing to do will be lucky to run the same time as his truck would have with a stock 5.3.
you 4.8 guys sure are touchy, there's no replacement for displacment. that statement is as true as ever. a 2001 or newer 6.0 that is ready to bolt in with low miles can be had for under $1500. one that needs pistons(and you might want pistons anyways)can be had for $900 or less.
a supercharger will most likely void parts of your warrenty. sure they will still fix your radio if it stops working but if you smoke your tranny a couple of times they are not going to keep fixing it. they MIGHT fix it once if you find the right dealer. they can void your warrenty on parts of the truck that were efected by the modification but not on unrelated systems.
