Default Flex-a-lite replacing fuse holders!

Flex-a-lite, one of the largest manufacturers of automotive cooling products, has become aware of a possible problem in the fuse holder on some of their electric fans. The models include #270, 280, 282, 290, 292, 295, 298 sold from May 2002 to July 2004 which included the fuse assembly produced by Che Yen Industrial Co., Ltd.. Flex-a-lite has discovered that the fuse was manufactured improperly and could cause electric fan control module failure, improper electric fan operation or worst case, the fuse body melting or catching on fire. Although Flex-a-lite has not had one instance of a fire, they are taking a pro-active stance and want to replace the faulty fuse holder with a new fuse and holder (part #31282) free of charge.

Flex-a-lite urges anyone with the above mentioned fans to contact them and install the new fuse holder immediately. The fuse holder simply splices in place of the old holder and is crimped into position between the wire and connector. If you need more information, or to contact Flex-a-lite, they can be reached at Flex-a-lite Consolidated, 1-800-851-1510, or (253) 922-2700. Fax number (253) 922-0226. P.O. Box 580, Milton, WA 98354.

Thanks for the heads up Tom. I'll be giving them a call Monday.

You can just call and ask them for new stuff? I tried that already and they said I have to fax them an invoice. I don't have it
This was with the VSC though.

I've always said they're nice folks. Flex-A-Lite genuinely cares about their customers, Lisa is one of the nicest people I've talked to. The invoices are probably needed for litigation with the supplier. They didn't used to ask for them.

BTW, other compaines that have consistently demonstrated the same levels of excellence, in my personal experience, are TransGo, Hydratech, Gear Vendors, The Other Guys, Inland Empire Driveline, and of course Flex-A-Lite. It is the PEOPLE that come to mind when I think of these companies, not the cement buildings that house them.

I've had bad experiences too. Pro-Comp, BBK...

Thank You

You mean it does things like this?

http://memimage.cardomain.net/member...9/617018_6.jpg

Discovered this as I was preparing to install the DCC unit I bought after Flexalite's VSC died on me. So let's see, that's the controller and the fuse. Luckily mine's a dual fan setup, so if one of the fans dies, the other should still run (I hope). Fortunately, for some reason I hung onto the old mechanical fan and shroud. I looks like I may need it.

I'm glad FAL has such great customer support.

Look at what happened to UPD... (UP-who?)

Now I know why my fuse blew, fan motor won't work and terminal on the fan motor was melted. This is bull. There seems to always be a problem with these flex-a-lite fans, I wish I had just saved and went with the permacools. I have had nothing but a bad experience with flex-a-lite, their customer service sucks!

I bought a Hayden brand electric fan wire harness and the fuse holder melted to a crisp. So don't replace it with one theirs.

I'm glad I have not even considered electric fans until now. If they work, I'll likely get the GM '05 fans and be done with it.

the '05s have electric fans?

elec fans 160 t-stat and a cam were my next mods - gm fans would be nice... but i bet the controller is the 05 pcm. the flex-a-lite/ls1 fans seem to be ok, but its the controller that everyone has issues with, right?
