Flowmaster > Dynomax > Flowmaster review
So I pick up this 2002 Silverado 2 months ago...
Modded the stock airbox (freebie), swapped on an Airaid intake tube (wasted $109), welded in a Flowmaster muffler to stock pipes, and updated my HPTuners to get license for 2002 Chevrolet/GMC trucks.
A week ago I decide that I no longer want ONE tailpipe, so I acquire a Dynomax catback, part #19310...just shy of $300 at Summit.
I cut the stock pipes right where they were welded onto the Flowmaster muffler and removed from rear of Y pipe back.
Front Dynomax pipe and Dynomax muffler were the only parts of the "kit" that attached to truck with no issues.
Left tailpipe was the same ID and OD as the muffler, so I had to expand the brand new muffler for it to "fit".
Then, no matter what I did, how I moved it, the left tailpipe was either against the rear shock, or against the framerail, and it was also against the rubber brake hose as well.
Right tailpipe, almost a straight shot, cleared everything fine.
The Dynomax kit also has two tailpipe extensions that go on.
Well, guess what? Yep, the tailpipe was also the same ID and OD as the extension....I wasn't about to remove the tailpipe at this point, so I took extension to local muffler shop for expanding.
This is where it got interesting...
The guy asks what I'm putting this soda can piping on...
I tell him I've been two evenings, both having rained on me, and many cuss words and headaches trying to make this "kit" work...
I also remember, albeit a bit too late, that I had similar problems doing this same Dynomax exhaust swap onto my old 97 Silverado about 5 or 6 years ago...
Muffler guy shows me his exhaust tubing and says for $100 more than I paid for this POS soda can piping and swingset hardware, that I could have had custom, welded Flowmaster dual catback with REAL aluminized thick gauge pipes and not some junk that the "aluminizing" rubs off on your hands...
Sometimes you gotta say WTF?!?!
I told him to cut the junk Dynomax crap off and do his thing...
2 hours later, and no headaches from me...I finally had my new "dual" exhaust.
Needless to say, I will NEVER, EVER recommend Dynomax dual exhaust kit for anybody's truck...
BTW, I am mechanic for a living and not some guy who is lost in a toolbox, or afraid of DIY repairs and maintainence, so it wasn't "me" as the problem.
I attached some pics...I used a spare set of Hooker F body catback dual outlet tips for a different look, and you can see how tight up to the undercarriage that he makes his custom setups, and the truck sounds great!
They are no clamps anywhere on this setup. Everything is welded and custom bent.
Hangers are also welded to piping.

Both places do nice work.
I actually stopped in a half hour before closing time, but he still did the 2 hour job without a peep...

Really hmm never heard of them, I might have to checkem out, I am getting the itch to have some exhaust work done here. I am going to go with single 4in and out magnaflow diesel muff.. At any rate that does look clean and neat...

Looks awesome.
On a side note, I see you have the aluminum driveshaft. What determines who gets aluminum and who gets steel? Mine is steel on a 2000 ecsb 2wd. Maybe only the 4wd's got aluminum.

I had actually all but forgotten about them, but the same guy did a custom 2.5" turbo back exhaust on my old Thunderbird Turbo Coupe about 10 years ago. I tried talking him into doing a true dual setup on my 2000 Camaro, but he wasn't having any part of that, lol...
