I've had my temps go that high numerous times because of the flex fans. Once when the fuse holder melted, several times when the VSC stopped working, once when a motor burned up all the wiring... Not fun. I called FAL and they send out a new VSC, fan motor, and all new wiring. So far so good.



I'm back to running the VSC, but this time, I have the PCM tripping the manual on / off terminal on the VSC instead of the temp probe.

 

do you have a pic of your vsc so i can see exactly how you have it wired up? are you still running the wire that hookes to the ac compressor? the wire i had mine hooked too stoped workin on the vsc but my ac still works. strange huh? but i like the idea of having my computer tell it to turn.

hey ryan, what did you pin to blue 42, the manual on/off ? does that send it right to 100% ? or are you using the probe input. do you know if the 42 pin sends a pos signal or a ground ? was thinking of getting that dc controller, worth the $ ? wondering if i can pin that to the pcm to get lower initial fan speed. elet me know what you know. e

 

Thats what I did. I wired the PCM to trip the Manual negative ON pin. It comes on 100% when that temp is reached. I think I may go ahead and add the temp probe set to a lower temp then they will start at slower speed earlier and hit 100% via the PCM at 200* (where I have it set).

 

Only I set my PCM to turn them on at 185...

 

How long have you guys been playing this game? Yes, the vsc is inexpensive, but do a site search and find out what the failure rate is. Maybe 70%? How much is your time, the cost of sweating bullets every time you sit in traffic and the risk of engine damage worth? Yes, they replace them for free, but is there any real bargain in that?

Then do a search on this and the mustang sites for the dccontrol unit. How many failures do you see? Zero. It's $30 more than the vsc, but considering the difference in reliability, it's much less expensive than the real cost of a free replacement vsc.
