Default Found out what was wrong with my motor. (this is F8L)

I'm on the computer at Synergy so bear with me.

Rick and Shawn took the 5.3L out of the Z71 and started tearing it apart to find out what the horrible knocking noise was. He started off thinking it was a rod bearing or something along those lines but the farther he dug he couldn't find the problem other than the Starbucks Mocha Latte oil in the motor.

Turns out it was a "seized" wrist pin. I guess I sucked up a lil too much water like we suspected and it caused problems with the wrist pin clearance possibly. I didn't go into to much detail asking exactly what would cause it to do that but I looked over the motor and you could feel how stiff the piston was on the rod compared to all the rest. It was pretty wild. The motor looks great otherwise and could probably be slapped back together if I wanted to go that route. Now I have to decide 5.3L or 6.0L

So in essense I am very pleased that it wasn't a tuning problem and that the motor was handling the power just fine. Even at 14-15psi. Just thought I'd give a heads up for people thinking of really boosting up these motors. Besides Parish. :p

I have a 5.3 my wife's not gonna let me stick in the TrailBlazer if you're interested.

I think it would need some rings though.

What are you going to do with your old 5.3L
Dad might be interested in it for a swap candidate.

Same goes for you if F8L doesn't want it.

Thank's Flyer. My 5.3L is fine other than that wrist pin problem. I could just do new bearings and rings and it would probably be fine. I may still do the 6.0L. It may hing on what happens with my heads. I am gonna have Rick's machine guy check em out and measure to see which valves I have and what the chambers CC out at so we can figure out what will work best. I don't really wanna spend an extra grand to get the 6.0L. It's just not that important to me and I am already spending so much money it's making me sick to my stomach to think about it.

I'm just stoked to see the lil 5.3L was holding up to all that power.

Ohh, the water damage was from actualy rain water getting sucked up from the turbo and into my motor. It started making the knocking noise the next day and progressively got worse and worse. That's why i try and educate everyone on these kits and ther ATI F-Body kits on the possible dangers of water if you act a fool and get all HYPHY in the rain. LOL

That means you Makani! You are prime canidate for playing in the rain with your AWD. :p
