Hi, I was just wondering if there's any sure way to tell if your engine has the full floating piston pins and heavier rods. I know the 13mm exhaust manifold bolts signify a newer engine, and have read the 13mm valley cover bolts could perhaps signify that you have the later, heavy internal engine. But has it been confirmed that this works 100% of the time? My 04 2wd has both and the date on the truck frame is April 2004.
Thanks
Thanks

And nobody's ever seen any examples of an engine having 13mm valley bolts and the old rods? Jeez, maybe I shoulda studded it before I put the turbo kit in.

Well a buddy of mine who is a member here as well has an 04 5.3 with the 13mm valley pan bolts alnd all the other identifiers....... And it still has the old style rods in it. Truck had no miles when he got so the knock sensor change is out the window.
There you go, an 04 without the good rods!
