Default The Future of my truck.

Since I got my truck a few months ago ive looked and looked and researched for the direction of my build. Itll take me probably a year or a little better to be finish due to be being on a college student income lol. But this is what ive determined so. My truck is a 04 ecsb 5.3.

It is my dd and will be for a LONG time. Ill probably rarely see a track with it, but will go every once in a while. Although it is dd, I can tolerate slightly rough street manners. My goal is a fast street dd that can possibly run low 13s at the track. Will this get me there?

TR220 112lsa
Circle D 3200 stall
Trutrac with 4.10s
Black Bear Tune
Ebay/Pacesetter LT headers ORY
CAI (have)
Vette Servo (have)
Transgo HD-2 shift kit
E-fans
Small wet shot Nitrous setup

None of this is set in stone and I would GREATLY appreciate all thoughts/opinions/tweaks you all can give me. Im open to any and all suggestions. Thanks!

I would recommend a good wideband to monitor A/F ratio when spraying.. Other than that looks good

I'd go with a bigger cam and converter personally. You'll be suprised how tame that setup will be. If you can tolerate some drivability loss then Id personally go with a mid-high 220s cam and a 3600 converter. You'll definitely be in the 12s on the bottle with that setup and low low 13s on motor.

And add in that wideband and a trans from one of our sponsors as well. That shift kit and servo will do well for a while but it'll save you money in the long run if you put a built trans in it and pickle your stocker for a rainy day. A big cooler is a must with any aftermarket converter IMO.

I dont mind drivability loss at all as long as it still gets halfway decent mpg. And performs well on the street where the majority of my racing will be done. I wouldnt mind stepping up in cam and stall. Any specific cams in mind? I glanced over at FLTs site and noticed their level 3 4l60e. Would that be enough for what I want? I do plan on a tranny cooler just forgot to put it in the list.

Would the TR224 cam with a 3400 stall be a better choice?

Ok, well here is my suggestion. 6.0 swap. It looks like youre looking for a dependable truck putting down ~350 rwhp. Forget about 1/4 mi times, IMO. If you are rarely going to hit the track, who cares what it runs in the 1/4 mi.

A tuned, stock cam 6.0 with full exhaust and bolts on will give you what youre looking for. Put together a little more money, and swap the cam before you drop it in. If youre going to do all that work to the 5.3, then you can swap a 6.0 in its place. If youre paying for it to be done, after you sell the 5.3 and your old transmission, you'll have paid for labor, maybe a tune also.

I'd still swap the stall, but no more than 3000 rpm. You're going to have traction problems. You think youre going to leave hard from a dig with a 3400 stall? Doubtful.

What you have listed isn't a bad list of mods. Your truck will be night and day faster. Probably drive it for 20k miles w/o a problem. 6.0 swap is a better way to get what you want, IMO. Plus its a better power base to work with, when you decide you want more power.

BTW, TR224 is the biggest cam Id go with in a 5.3. And thats a baby cam for a 6.0. Just saying

why not build the 5.3, run it hard and spray it with a 224cam and then when it goes some day you still have a bigger than stock cam in a 6.0 or can swap cams again when the engine goes in. just a thought, and would love to hear feedback cause this is what i am planning also...
