G80 Locker
Hey guys I have a differential question. I have the stock G80 locker in my truck. My roommate has a truck identical to mine the only difference being mine is 01 and his is 02. He has been complaining that his tires squeal when going around corners at low speed. My truck does not do this. I thought the cornering tire squeal was common on locking rears. I have also noticed that when I can get my tires to spin some times I only leave one strip on the road. Could this be because I have older tires or could my differential be junk?? I am thinking it is not the tires because this past winter on ice I could look in the rearview and see where I was spinning only one tire. Any comments are appreciated.
Thanks,
Kevin

Re: G80 Locker
Wow that sucks. I paid for the locker on my truck. It is listed as an option and comes standard with the offroad package. Maybe I should pop the hatch and take a look inside.

Re: G80 Locker
Is there any way to tell if it is a locker besides for popping the cover off of the pumpkin? I was told that if you jack the rear end up and both wheels turn the same direction you have a locker and if they rotate the opposite direction that it is an open diff? Is this true?

Re: G80 Locker
I read up on the factory G80. It seems to me the thing is a piece of junk. It will only lock below 20mph. No wonder I can only spin one wheel. For more information check out the following website. Thanks for all the help. Eaton Torque Control

Re: G80 Locker
I guess that is possible. I have been seriously thinking about putting an Auburn in it. The more I look at the G80 the more it looks like some cheesy piece of junk. The article says it only locks up at speeds below 20mph. Does this mean that as soon as I hit 20mph the thing unlocks? Or does it mean that it will only lock up at speeds below 20 but will remain locked until the tires stop spinning. Unlike all you Texans I spend about 8 months out of the year driving on ice. Makes for some pretty good adrenaline rushes. Nothing like cruisin at 60mph going to WOT and spinnin all 4 tires

dude your set-up is good for off roading, the locker senses an rpm difference of 100rpm between the wheels and lockes up (good for mudding) and above 20 mph it stays open too keep the *** end of the truck under control at high speeds on wet, or icy roads. There might be a vin code sombody knows for that locker, but chances are its an eaton locker.
