G80 performance/reliability?
Hey guys. I currently have an open diff 3.42. With the new engine a month or so away, I'm wanting to get a posi into the truck to get the power to the road. I know a guy with a whole rearend with 3.73 gears and a factory G80 posi from a Tahoe that would swap right into my Yukon.
What is everyone's experience with the G80 regarding smoothness of operation, noise, reliability and longevity?

With what I see planned in your sig, I would recomend you getting something better like an Eaton or Auburn Pro. My G80 hung in there as long as it could but it just couldnt hold the power. I think they are fine for a stock or mildly moded truck but not a performance carrier by any means.
btw.. this is what happens to a G80 when you spray a 100 shot with a yank 3000, et streets and a sticky track...

I got mine recently off ebay for $300
You want 8.5 10 bolt 30 spline (at least thats what I needed, Yukon should be the same?)

Demon.. you are a little confused on how a posi works. What you described is a mechanical locker, just like the G80 unit. A posi uses clutches/springs and is torque sensitive. When it senses over a certian amount of torque, it will engage the clutches to spin both wheels. This is in cases such as launches or high throttle instances. Otherwise it operates normally like and open differential.
