Default Gears and gas mileage?

I have 3.42 gears with a powertrax locker. This setup sucks on Louisiana roads. I'm gonna kill myself if i don't do something. My question is, if i go with 4.10s and a eaton, what will my gas mileage be around, or should i go with 3.73s and a eaton. The powertrax just locks up too much for daily driving and my rearend jumps all over the road, just figure if i'm gonna get a new posi, i might as well get new gears, what do ya'll think.

I recently got some larger rims and tires which took away some of my performance. After a long debate, I have an eaton on the way and I'm trying to find a good deal on a set of 3.73's. I think that the 4.10s would be too much because I don't street/track race and I have a 19 mile trek to baton rouge every day. I hope to have gears and eaton install within the next 2 weeks. I'll let you know what i think.

thanks for the replies, anybody else have any opinions? i'm probably gonna go with the 3.73s, i'm on the road a pretty good bit, don't want the mileage to drop too far down. whats the opinions on the eaton and auburn. Is it hard to install this or should i take it to someone.

I just got back from a trip to Louisiana this weekend. For 201 miles of the trip I was hauling a set of wheels/tires plus a tool box.I checked mileage on the way home when I had to stop and fill up.Got 17.8 mpg running an average of 75-80 mph most of the way. That includes one pass down the track when I was at NPR
