EXACTLY..GM has always held to their rule that no other performance vehicle can have a more powerful engine than the vette. There were some ways around this, i.e. COPO camaros, however this can even be seen with the 1970 chevelle SS LS6 454 which was rated at 450 HP. And just to hold true to this rule, in 1970 I believe there was a corvette option LS7 which was the 454 however rated at 460 HP.

Gotta love the big blocks of the 60/early 70s

The biggest example of this in recent memory was the Grand National. They way they got around it was to just rate the GN lower....but oh, what a machine. I kick myself every time I see one of those and think "If only I had been more responsible back then..." but then if I had, I would have likely wrapped myself around a tree...

that part isn't exactly correct. the LS7 was originally intended to be used in the 70' vette, but due to verious reasons it wasn't put used and the LS6 wasn't ready without some changes. the LS6 wasn't used in the vette until 71' so the LS5 was the top choice for the vette in 70' making an unusual year with the monte carlo and impala top dog at 460hp with the LS6 option. more commonly though the chevelle at 450hp was king for that year.

I definitely agree with that.

I'm not a fan of some of the standard LS/LT/whatever packaging they do. There are a few options I had to pay for that I didn't want - only because I wanted a few others that required me to get into one of the packages. (not necessarily on this vehicle, but my last one too.)

Even in recent years - didn't GM under-rate the F-bodies to boost 'vette sales? I mean, they use the same dang motor...

they wre underrated a bit. the corvette did still have more hp though simply because it had a considerably better exhaust and intake ducting set-up. if you've ever seen the difference just in exhaust between the corvette and the camaro you'd see some of the difference. part of underrating the camaro aside from the corvette hp numbers were the inconsistancy in output of the engine and it's always good to get a little more than it's listed for. nobody complains when you get too much, it's just whe you get not enough.

Its a shame what they did to the Camaros! Yeah my old ladies dad works at GM where they build the Colorados/Canyons and she was telling me one day that on the Colorados that the Z71 doesnt mean that they are 4x4 and since it always has before I politely corrected here and it then got heated! So onw day we were at her Dad's and I asked him and he told me that unless it said 4x4 or offroad I cant remember it was a 2wd! Im still hearing about it! Damn GM ! LOL!
I like the E-fans! So what would e the difference in the 310hp 5.3 and the 290hp 5.3 besides the obvious 20hp(I know someone would have said that if I didnt!) What is it called?????????????
