i heard the same thing. it is best to have one or the other. of course the HPP3 gives you more options. the MAF only gives you the timing. HPP3 limits the mods that you can do unless you only use it just for shift points, rev lim, and shift firmnness. i wanted to put headers and a MAF on my truck but i feel that it would be a waste of money since the HPP3 would have to be reprogrammed for those mods that influence air flow. have him get you a TC if you don;t have one already i don't have one because i have major traction problems already and no POSI

Don't know from experience but I've heard it will lean out your motor at WOT.

By the way I'd watch the "favor" talk or someones gonna call

Its my understanding I can not use the 'power tuning' in the HPP3 but every thing else is OK. Its just a mater of time ($$$) befor I have ls1edit.

I was more wondering if anyone had say a dyno or a seat-o-pants impression.

Just my $.02... I'm using the cold air intake calibrated version of the GMS with the hpp3 tuned for 93 octane and it's been working just fine for a year now. My long term fuel trims stay +7 or less so it's really not very lean.

If you are going to get edit in the future, get him to buy to another mod besides a GMAF. Our trucks have been typically running rich from the factory, so it works by leaning us out some. Thats the same thing hypertech does, so the two combine to make us extra rich at WOT. Definitely don't use both with a power adder.

Here is some info that might help. I wrote the makers of LS1Edit.

quote:
I am currently using a Hypertech PPIII to tune my 2000 GMC 5.3. I have made many mods including a Granetelli MAFS and seem to over stepped the PPIII's capability. Can your program handle all of the same things the PPIII can? Can I also tune so the MAFS can be used or should I remove it anyway, is the MAFS worth the gains or can I gain more from more specific tuning? [quote]

Here is there response:

[quote]LS1-Edit does include all the features of the HPPIII, and a lot more tuning ability. You can keep the Granatelli MAF, and tune for it, But
you don't really need a larger MAF till you go with a Blower. The stock MAF will support 450 HP in a 427, so you shouldn't be exceeding its limits.

I am running full PPIII and the GMS MAF and I do not have problems. It has been on for over a year. I talked with Hypertech and they some people have the problem and some don't. You would get knock or detonation if it is an issue. I did feel it made a difference, "seat of the pants". I already had PPIII running when it went in. I would suggest selling PPIII and putting your $ with your friends and buying LS1Edit. It will pay off in the end bc you can use it to tune for all the things PPIII cannnot. My opinion.

I'm sorry, but, your fired.

Whats the going rate for a used PPIII?

Guess I will find out what they go for pretty soon. Hope my comment doesn't flood the market and drive down the price! The PPIII is a nice starting place when you first start modding your truck but there comes a time when the boy becomes a man and needs a man's tool!
