A good cam for towing with Yukon XL?

What other mods did you have? Stock manifolds, tc, intake, etc? I am looking for something that is going to have a nasty lope to it but something that would get better gas mileage and tow well. If replacing the cam other than just replacing the seals is there anything else really needed? Would it be worth while to port and polish the heads or do they have to come off to install the cam?

Would a cam out of a Z06 be a good choice? The specs on the 405 hp cam are 204/218 @ .050 and a lobe centerline of 117.5. How would that be as a choice? With ported and polised heads and better vavle springs? Or should I get an aftermarket cam? There is one for sale on Tech for 175 shipped with springs.

The ZO6 cam is good for towing. It would be better if the LSA were more narrow and the exhaust duration weren't so long. GM tried to emphasize the HP potential around 6,000 RPM's with stock heads and thats why they went to the 218 exhaust duration with the 203 intake. The wider LSA also spreads out the power band and reduces the exhaust closing/intake opening overlap and this reduces reversion and improves emision levels. It's still a good, relatively inexpensive cam.

That is kind of what I was thinking that maybe the LSA would be too wide. So I would be better to get an aftermarket cam with a tighter LSA. I wonder how the Z06 cam would idle in the 5.3, also what kind of power it would make with a set of ported heads over stock and through stock manifolds.
