Default Got a cooling issue!

He's the deal i have a 01 siverado 5.3 tsp 220, cai, stock manifolds somewhat built tranny with a tb stall. My prob is when im in traffic or just sitting idling for more than say 5min my temps gauge will go to 220-260 i can cool it down when i start driving but the humid heat arouns here is making it a pain to drive. Now i know the reason, i have a bodylift and has moved my fan shroud from being directly in front of my radiator. Yes i know e-fans will fix this but i am on a budget seeing how i have two kids, truck takes back seat. My question is for the time being will a 160 t-stat help this problem? I dont want to hurt my motor or tranny. Any ideas? Suggestions? I will do efans before next summer just need something to help now

you have to have the flow across the radiator no matter what Tstat you use..

take your hood off?? nah just kidding. you can't find an electric fan for cheap in a junk yard or something. i think paying for an electric fan now is cheaper than buying a motor later. maybe a t-stat will help for a little bit, but too much bumper to bumper traffic at a time will still make it hot. maybe find a newer route to work.

If you're on a budget, the 05 truck fans might just break your bank, as they require a 34" radiator and your truck has a 28" radiator. LS1 or LT1 fans would be cheaper. Search the entire GM section for "efans" and you'll find thread upon thread of info. Basically all you'll need is fans, a harness, and the PCM tuned to turn them on. You can also bypass the PCM tune with a manual toggle switch or a FlexALite probe that that pushes into the radiator, although those probes have been known to fail without warning.
