i'm switchin out my 4.3 in my show truck to an 05 5.3 with only 30k on it..

i'm looking to keep it pretty mild but want some decent power out of it.. i wanna do a cam that gives me a good loping noise but how big can i go without switchin out the stall?

other question is, other than headers, exhaust and intake, and tune, what else is there to do that doesnt just flat out break the bank? i dont wanna do a F/I setup because the truck barely gets driven..

you dont need to switch out the stall with any cam, it will work, but to get the best out of the cam (i.e. if your goin to race) then yes, u will need to swap it out. the lsa is what gives you the lope, so any cam you get, consider 112 lsa choppy idle or 110 lsa, really loppy. cam choices would probably be 212/218 or 220/220...... neither of the cams are goin to perform like they should without proper stall, but like i said, depends what ur goin to do with it. and the only other thing is underdrive pulley or change intake manifold.

Since you're swapping engines it'd be really easy to swap converters while you're in there. You can get a good 3000 rpm converter on here from time to time for fairly cheap. Add in a cam with a lot of overlap and you'll be set. I like the sound of the Vinci 216/224 115 lsa cam; it performs well and doesn't require a lot of converter. Its nothing radical but sounds wicked for its size.

Overlap is what gives you lope, a cam ground on a 112 LSA with very short intake duration won't lope at all

so a 220/220 or 224/224 will sound the same if its 112 lsa or 115 lsa?

The 115 will be smoother; lsa does play a part in the lope but not as much as the overall overlap. A general formula to use for overlap is:

((intake duration @ .050" + exhaust duration @ .050") / 4) - lsa = overlap

True, if you take 2 exact cams with different LSA's, the one with the tighter LSA will have more overlap and therefore more lope
